Elevating Women in the Mining Sector

Leadership Education to Support Women in Mining

Welcome to Resource Becoming, a nonprofit organization committed to driving transformative change in the mining sector. We collaborate with organizations to amplify women in mining. We aim always to increase the triple bottom line – people, planet and prosperity and develop the tools to achieve responsible development.

Our Mission to Support Women

Resource Becoming is committed to transforming the mining sector into a model of inclusivity, equity, and social responsibility. Founded by Peggy Bell, a passionate advocate with nearly 15 years of experience in the industry, we have established a strong foothold in championing systemic change. Our mission orbits around three core pillars:

Empowering Workshops and Courses.

We believe that education is the cornerstone of progress and equality. Our educational initiatives aim to create inviting environments for women and gender-diverse individuals in mining. Aligned with Towards Sustainable Mining and its recently released protocols on Equitable, Diverse, and Inclusive Workplaces, we focus on increasing leadership knowledge about psychological safety, the daily experience of women in mining, and recognizing barriers to success within the organization. The result is increased talent retention, fostering inclusive workspaces, and facilitating career progression.

Understanding the nuances and complexities of the mining industry requires rigorous research. We use gender and intersectional analysis within sector organizations to identify gaps, opportunities, and best practices. The insights gained fuel our educational programs and create best practices, ensuring that we are not just reacting to the status quo but actively shaping a better future.

Collaboration is essential for enduring change. We partner with government bodies, community organizations, rights holders, and stakeholders in the mining sector to amplify our impact. Our advisory board, comprised of senior leaders from the industry, provides strategic guidance, ensuring that our efforts are both meaningful and measurable. Through these partnerships, we aim to elevate the triple bottom line—people, planet, and prosperity—and position our partners as social leaders in the community.

The Changing Face of Mining, hosted by Peggy Bell of Resource Becoming, is a seminal platform for pioneering dialogues that reimagine the mining sector. Positioned as a nexus for change, the show aims to harmonize people, planet, and prosperity. Listeners tune in for compelling conversations on topics ranging from authentic leadership and creating opportunities for equity-deserving people to transformative technologies. What sets the show apart is its focus on innovation, inspiration, and empowerment, aligning perfectly with Resource Becoming’s mission to reshape the sector. With an upcoming season finale delving into supply chain, talent, stewardship, and governance, this is a touchstone for anyone committed to making a transformative impact in mining.

Land Acknowledgment

Resource Becoming is operated on the treaty and traditional territory of the Michi Saagig Anishnaabeg.  We want to acknowledge their ancestors and future generations.

As an organization working in this region and on these lands and waters, we are grateful to the First Peoples for their care, stewardship, teachings, and relations.

Resource Becoming is committed to respecting the sovereignty of Indigenous Peoples, honouring the treaties our ancestors have signed, and acknowledging the privilege of living in this beautiful place.

We recognize the historical and current inequities and are striving towards reconciliation.
